Job Title: Director of Music Ministry
Status: Part-Time; 10-15 hrs/wk

This position will serve as the primary musician for all worship services, leading and directing the music ministry at Chisago Lake Lutheran Church. The position reports to the lead pastor.

This position will serve as the primary musician for all worship services, leading and directing the music ministry at Chisago Lake Lutheran Church. The position reports to the lead pastor.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Select hymns/songs which relate to the scriptural text and liturgical year, in coordination with the pastor
- Provide musical education, training and leadership to the congregation at large – new hymns, liturgy, etc.
- Recruit and schedule musicians for worship and rehearsal, as needed
- Conduct the adult choir and rehearsals as needed, and actively recruit new members
- Train cantors and liturgists
- Provide music resource to the Sunday School and Children’s Choir
- Forward music to the office administrator for inclusion in the bulletin
- Participate in monthly Worship and Music Committee meetings
- Participate regularly in staff meetings and contribute as a team player
- Oversee and report to church leadership on the condition of organ, piano, and other instruments
- Be available for funerals, weddings and other special services, with additional compensation
- Ensure all sound equipment is ready when needed and turned off and put away
- Attend continuing education opportunities with an allowance provided
- Arrange for a substitute when needed
- Carry out other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned or required
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
- Proficiency on organ and piano.
- Music theory background.
- Active theological foundation, preferably with liturgical Lutheran experience or willingness to learn.
- Ability to play and sing with accurate pitch and rhythm.
- Ability to delegate, train, encourage and coordinate volunteers.
- Inspire cohesiveness and love of worship, both musically and among the congregation.
- Ability to perform various musical styles – traditional hymnody, contemporary, gospel, global music, etc.
- Basic proficiency in organizational, interpersonal, motivational, communication, and teaching skills.
- Ability to select liturgically, theologically and congregationally appropriate songs for each worship event.
Other Qualifications
- Musical ability on other instruments.
- Experience with sound equipment.
- Familiarity with copyright laws.
